Windsor Residence for Young Men (WRYM) received a $152,800 grant. As a result, more than 50 homeless people in Windsor have received housing benefits.

Local MPPs Andrew Dowie and Lisa Gretzky met with the WRYM team on September 15 to discuss the $152,800 Resilient Communities Fund. They received this grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

“WRYM continues to impress me with its invaluable work with young people,” Gretzky said. These young men are men and they are rebuilding their lives after leaving homelessness behind. These young people are often victims of abuse, neglect or domestic violence. Some are also recovering from drug addiction.

Through this grant, WRYM will be able to hire staff to establish a system to support and provide skills development education to homeless youth.

More than 50 homeless youth have received help through the System Navigation Project in the past two years. Majority of them got sustainable housing.

WRYM Executive Director Jason Weinberg said it’s important to remember that these young people are victims of violence, abuse and neglect. Over 85 percent of our customers reported experiencing domestic violence and abuse in the past year. With the help of OTF we are able to provide these young people with life skills, housing and support for a successful transition to adulthood.

Youth participating in System Navigation projects have been able to continue schooling as well as reach employment goals and find permanent housing in the private market or with family.
