Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is set to make his first international trip since assuming the party’s leadership, with a week-long visit to the United Kingdom and Germany aimed at strengthening Canada’s trade and diplomatic relationships.

According to an itinerary released by the Conservative Party on Feb. 27, Poilievre will travel to London and Berlin from March 2 to March 8. The trip will focus on reinforcing Canada’s existing commercial partnerships and promoting the country’s economic potential to political and business audiences abroad.

Poilievre’s visit begins in London, where he is scheduled to meet with British Members of Parliament and leaders from the business community on March 2 and 3. He will also attend a reception hosted by CANZUK International, an advocacy organization that supports closer economic, migration, and foreign policy cooperation between Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.

During his time in the British capital, Poilievre is slated to deliver the Margaret Thatcher Lecture at the Centre for Policy Studies on March 3. The address is expected to outline his views on economic growth, free markets, and Canada’s role in strengthening transatlantic partnerships.

From London, the Conservative leader will travel to Berlin on March 4. There, he will give a keynote speech on Canada’s transatlantic relationship at the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, a think tank affiliated with Germany’s governing Christian Democratic Union. His German itinerary also includes meetings with government officials and business leaders.

On March 6, Poilievre will tour the port of Hamburg, one of Europe’s busiest shipping hubs, followed by a visit to a liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility at the Jade-Weser port on Germany’s North Sea coast on March 7. Poilievre has previously pointed to the rapid construction of the LNG terminal completed in just 194 days as an example of how Canada could accelerate major infrastructure and energy projects.

He is scheduled to return to Canada on March 8. The Conservative Party has stated that the trip will be fully funded by the party.

Poilievre’s overseas visit coincides with Prime Minister Mark Carney’s own international tour. Carney is travelling to India, Japan, and Australia in an effort to broaden Canada’s trade partnerships and attract new investment, with plans to return home on March 7.

The announcement of Poilievre’s trip follows a speech he delivered at the Economic Club of Canada, where he outlined his approach to negotiating improved trade terms with the United States.

The back-to-back international travel plans underscore a broader political focus on trade diversification and economic growth, as Canada navigates evolving global markets and shifting geopolitical alliances.
