Unauthorized sexually stimulating products sold in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) may pose serious health risks, Health Canada has warned. Products may contain ingredients not listed on the label, the company said. Or the list may contain ingredients that are dangerous.
Health Canada’s website says these products may contain prescription drug ingredients at levels higher than the minimum recommendations. Consuming products with ingredients the consumer is not aware of can cause severe allergies and reactions with other drugs and foods.
The listed unauthorized products were seized from retail stores in Toronto, Scarborough, Etobicoke and Brampton. After testing, Health Canada found that most of the products contained the prescription drugs sildenafil and tadalafil. They are used in the treatment of erectile dysfunction.
Health Canada warns on its website that both ingredients can interact with nitrate drugs and increase the risk of heart attack, stroke and high blood pressure.
Health Canada urges anyone using these products to seek the advice of a healthcare professional. Also requested to stop their use immediately.
