The timing was just right

The present moment was the perfect time to reinstate the caretaker government. The reason is that once a political government assumes power after an election, they will no longer bring back the caretaker system. They will create various obstacles, influence the judiciary, and completely block the path to reinstating a caretaker government.

Had this issue been resolved now, an impartial and fair election-time government system could have been permanently embedded within the state’s system. If that had happened, there would no longer be any problems regarding fair elections in the future.

But unfortunately, everyone only talks about a fair election system in words, while in reality, all parties want to come to power and manipulate the election system to their advantage to retain power. No political party, once in power, wants to ensure a fair electoral system that truly reflects the people’s mandate. The culture of accepting victory and defeat with grace is still far from reality. Otherwise, all parties would have made strong efforts to reinstate the caretaker government during this interim government’s tenure.

The main opposition party, BNP, seems to believe that they will come to power soon. Therefore, they see no need to push for the reinstatement of the caretaker government at this moment. Once in power, they can manipulate the election system to retain power repeatedly.

They do not learn from history. That is why their downfall is often tragic. They fail to realize that while power can be forcibly prolonged, the exit is always disgraceful.

It is this mindset of monopolizing power that prevents them from ensuring a fair electoral system.

Had they truly wanted it, they would have worked to bring back the caretaker government under the current non-political administration.

The review hearing regarding the reinstatement of the caretaker government was scheduled for February 9. However, this matter seems to have mysteriously disappeared.

Most likely, neither side is now genuinely interested in bringing back the caretaker government.
