The Okanagan car scene is gearing up for a double feature this May long weekend

The Okanagan car scene is gearing up for a double feature this May long weekend, with not one, but two car shows vying for attention. This unexpected development has sparked some tension, raising questions about whether the region can support both events.

World of Wheels, a longstanding Peachland tradition celebrating its 25th year, is branching out to Kinsmen Park in West Kelowna, citing limitations in its previous location. While disappointed about leaving Peachland, organizers are excited about the new venue’s spacious parking and park-like setting. They remain committed to their community, with continued support for local groups through event donations.

Meanwhile, the Peachland Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the District of Peachland, is stepping in to fill the void left by World of Wheels. Their focus is on a downsized, family-friendly event within Peachland itself. Mayor Van Minsel emphasizes that this is not intended as a direct competitor, but rather an opportunity to cater to a different audience and complement the tourism draw of World of Wheels.

The May long weekend could see car enthusiasts enjoying a double dose of automotive excitement: cruising through classic cars at World of Wheels in West Kelowna, followed by a more relaxed family-oriented experience in Peachland. Only time will tell whether this unique two-pronged approach will be a success or lead to competition fatigue.
