NDP leader Jagmeet Singh said the New Democrats will not agree to the demands of the Bloc Québécois and Conservative leaders to oust the Liberal government. His party is now stuck between Trudeau’s Liberals and a snap election. The other two opposition parties have vowed to try to remove the minority government from power.
Bloc Québécois leader Yves-François Bloch said on October 30 that his party would work with other opposition parties to remove the Liberal government from power through a vote of no confidence.
But if the Liberals and NDP vote against the motion, they do not have the number of MPs needed to remove the Liberal government.
Jagmeet Singh said he is not going to play their game. He does not support the Liberals and his party is ready to start the election campaign when the time comes. But he will not go down that path until he is sure it will be beneficial for Canadians.
“We will look at any bill, any proposal that is brought forward,” he said. “If it helps Canadians in this difficult time, we will consider it.”
The Conservatives have already tried twice to oust the government by bringing a pair of no-confidence motions. Both failed and they received no support from the NDP or the Bloc.
Blanche last month gave the Liberal government a deadline to pass two pieces of legislation to avoid a pre-Christmas election. One was to address outdated security and the other to secure the supply chain. But the Liberals are at serious risk of a no-confidence vote in the House if they fail to pass the legislation by that deadline, Blanche said.
