Maple Leaf Foods is closing its aging poultry plant in Brantford, Ontario. Also by early next year their production is becoming more integrated into the existing network.
The company said earlier this year that the 100-year-old plant would require significant investment to continue long-term operations.
Maple Leaf said most of its further processed poultry production will be integrated into the existing network.
Curtis Frank, the company’s president and chief executive officer, said the company took the decision seriously. The closure will be phased in to ensure business continuity and meet customer demand.
The company will work with the workers affected by the shutdown. One of them is giving them the opportunity to join other institutions of the Maple Leaf.
