The Toronto Police Service recently sent out a memo to all senior civilian and uniformed officers, informing them that Chief Myron Demkiw’s office had decided not to renew the licence for the bar situated in their downtown headquarters.

Though the bar has reportedly only been available to higher ranking officials, a TPS spokesperson, Stephanie Sayer, confirmed this move. According to Sayer’s emailed statement, “The licence was used infrequently, and largely for formal functions… Moving forward, the Service will apply for a Special Occasions Permit from the AGCO should they decide to host an event where alcohol may be served.”

The closure comes after news of a possible connection between the bar and a superintendent’s drunk driving crash came out.
