The Daily Bread Food Bank in Toronto has received a significant and much-needed donation from the United States-based Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Etobicoke-based food bank announced in a statement that they have received a $2 million donation from the Mormon Church. The Church has 50,000 members in Ontario and 17 million worldwide.

This is the largest donation the Church has given to Canada to date. The Church had previously donated to Daily Bread in 2022 and 2023, but the amounts were not as large.

A portion of the funds will also be used to strengthen the food bank’s transportation fleet to ensure they can continue to deliver food to meet the increased demand of their member network.

Neil Hiderington, CEO of Daily Bread Food Bank, said in a press release, ‘Food is a human right. We are deeply grateful and inspired by our partners, such as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, who have dedicated themselves to serving our community and ensuring families have the support they need during times of crisis.’

Elder David G. Lafrance, Area Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, said, ‘This donation reflects the Christian love for God and neighbor.
