Portage la Prairie RCMP looking for 18-year-old male suspect in abduction

The Portage la Prairie RCMP received a report on June 30, 2023, at 12:30 a.m., that an 18-year-old male had assaulted and then kidnapped a 16-year-old female from a Portage la Prairie residence. The suspect and casualty are known to one another.

Data was gotten that the suspect showed up at the home, situated on tenth Road NW in Portage la Grassland, and attacked the casualty prior to setting her in his vehicle. As the suspect was leaving, a danger was made that he was equipped with a gun which an observer had affirmed had been found in the vehicle before at night.

Officials showed up at the home and were prompted that the suspect was accepted to head Winnipeg.

The suspect vehicle portrayal was given to adjoining RCMP Separations as well as the Winnipeg Police Administration.

At roughly 1:00 am, Headingley RCMP noticed the suspect vehicle driving eastward on Interstate 1, at it entered Headingley, where they endeavored a traffic stop. A pursuit began after the suspect failed to yield to police, and the vehicle of the suspect was lost in the City of Winnipeg.

Despite the area’s continued patrols, the suspect vehicle was not located.

The Winnipeg Police Administration furnished help with watch units checking a few locations of interest which prompted the casualty being found safe at 5:00 am at a location on Strathcona Road.

Cayden Andrew Lathlin, 18, of Winnipeg, has been charged with Kidnapping with a Firearm, Uttering Threats, Assault, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Fight from Police. The RCMP have issued a Warrant of Arrest for him.
