The fire department received reports of the structure fire around 4:08 a.m. on Britannia Ave., between Harmony Ave. and Cameron Ave. N.

First crew on scene reported heavy smoke and fire from two homes, numbered 314 and 316. Flames were seen through the roof.

Firefighters entered both homes, but no one was found inside. It was later determined that a passerby had alerted the residents of the fire who were then able to self-evacuate.

The fire department says it quickly advanced throughout the upper floors of both homes. The crews were eventually able to get the fire under control.

Both homes have suffered extensive damage.

The Office of the Fire Marshal is being notified due to the nature and estimated dollar loss.
