Are any of you surprised by how clean Metrolinx keeps the exterior of their trains? To many, it may not seem any different from your personal car.

Metrolinx shared a video on social media. A new train wash installed at the maintenance and storage facility of the under-construction Finch West LRT has been proposed there. In the short video, you will see a train operator moving forward after receiving a message from the intercom.

It goes well with any car wash. The conveyor belt system has train tracks, similar to what you’d see at most gas station washes.

A Metrolinx spokesperson said the infrastructure along Finch Avenue and Jane Street is one of four washing bays operating in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Other wash bays are located at Metrolinx’s Willibrook, Eglinton and Whitby rail repair infrastructure.

The Finch Avenue infrastructure measures 10,000 square feet, with capacity for up to 26 light rail vehicles. As the construction of the 11 km Finch West LRT continues, train trials are being conducted along the line. It is expected to be operational by the end of this year.

Once completed, a rapid transit connection will be established from the existing Finch West subway station to the Humber College campus at Finch Avenue West and Highway 27.
