A great disaster looms over the world

This is not a natural disaster, but a political storm. At the center of this storm is the newly elected President of the United States, Donald Trump. He has not yet taken office, but he has already created a stir in world politics.

Trump’s new goal is to make Canada the 51st state of the United States. His interest has doubled since the news of Justin Trudeau’s resignation. Yesterday, at a conference at the Mar-a-Lago resort, he said that he would use “economic force” to make Canada part of the United States. This means that tariffs on Canadian goods will be increased, and the same strategy will be applied to Mexico. Trump’s statement, “We will make Canada and America one great nation.”

Such a statement naturally caused a strong reaction in Canadian political circles. Trudeau responded directly, saying, “There isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell that Canada would become part of the United States.” Conservative leader Pierre Polivre also said in harsh terms, “It will never happen.” Ontario Premier Doug Ford also told Fox News, “Canada isn’t for sale.”

Trump isn’t just planning on Canada. He has sent his son Donald Trump Jr. to buy Greenland. Trump Jr. directly told the Danish president, “My father sent me to buy Greenland, don’t worry, you’ll get a good offer.” However, the Danish president immediately rejected it, saying, “It’s not for sale.”

Trump is not stopping there. He has announced that he will use military or economic pressure if Greenland is not purchased or if the Panama Canal is seized.

Then came another controversial statement—the announcement to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America.” Trump claimed, “We do everything here, so it should be ours.” Mexico’s newly elected President Claudia Sheinbaum reacted strongly to this claim and threatened to take strong action against US tariff policies.

All of Trump’s actions are like one political explosion after another. The first days of his administration have created global unrest, which gives a glimpse of how difficult the next four years could be. Will the world consider boycotting him?
