In the midst of the Hollywood movie festival, the first 3 days of ‘Priyotoma’ earned 44 thousand dollars!
Due to the super peak season of Hollywood movies, ‘Priyotoma’ got a chance to be released in only 42 theaters in Canada and America on July 7. With Indiana Jones from the week before, Joy Ride released the same day, Mission Impossible released midweek (July 12, Wednesday), American chains in Canada are either not or can’t offer enough theaters at the moment, unless they’re movies with absolutely outstanding potential.
It is also unfair to expect them to bet on uncertain prospects of other industries leaving their own industry’s sureshot blockbusters on which almost all of their early business depends. So ‘Priyotoma’ was released without several KEY locations.
Canada’s Ottawa, Montreal, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Regina and America’s Virginia, South Florida, Pennsylvania’s Upper Derby and Lansdale, New York’s Buffalo, California’s Central Los Angeles, Connecticut, Massachusetts could not find a place for ‘Priyatma’. Each of these locations is very important for our movies and a huge box office contribution comes from these markets.
Still, ‘Priyotoma’ grossed $44,000 in the first 3 days, making it the 4th highest opening (so far) in the history of a Bangladeshi film at the North American box office. The most promising thing is that the movie is performing well in all the key markets out of 42 theatres.
In New York, ‘Priyotoma’ storm is blowing. Even in these difficult times due to the pressure of the audience, New York’s Jamaica Multiplex has been forced to give its biggest hall to Preetuma. 7 shows in one day instead of 4. The show at AMC John R 15 in Michigan has been selling out since day one.
The ‘Priyotoma’ viewing festival is also going on in Toronto, Canada. Here such a huge success of ‘Priyatma’ is a big event. Besides, the movie is doing well at AMC Neshaminy in Bensalem, North East Philadelphia and AMC Fullerton in Greater Los Angeles. The best news is that ‘Priyatma’ entered the 2nd week after all these. Let me remind you again, only outstanding potential or outstanding performance can get or hold a place in the theaters during the peak summer season. If ‘Priyatma’ failed to do so in the above theatres, there was no question of going to the 2nd week.
Now let’s see if ‘Priyotoma’ can become a $100,000+ grosser in the North American market with its lifetime business! So far only 3 Bangladeshi movies have achieved this milestone.
