Political Kangaroo Trials

The trial of Socrates is a classic example of how a political kangaroo trial can instantly turn a hero into a villain. The Oppenheimer trial is a modern example.

The three-four minutes of very brief bitter conversation between Oppenheimer and President Harry Truman can be called ‘mesmerizing moments’ in political history. “Oppenheimer” not only in the movie, but in reality. There are numerous historical documentary references on this subject. Kai Bird and Martin Sherwin didn’t even get a Pulitzer for the book ‘American Prometheus’. By rummaging through many references, cross-examining them, they state each incident.
The dialogue in the movie is one and a half minutes long. That minute and a half is the nuclear minute and a half in the history of cinema.

Truman expected to see a frazzled, jubilant, exuberant Oppenheimer in front of the president. He saw a dejected, other-minded yogi. Wanted to know – what is the feeling after achieving the impossible, Oppenheimer?
“I have blood stains on both of my hands,” Oppenheimer replied flatly.

Truman is furious. Not in the movie, but in many history books, Truman took out a handkerchief from his pocket with a bang-smeared face and said – what else to do! Wipe the blood off your hands.

Why this fat man was gentrified in the movie is not understood. Truman’s dialogue in the movie goes something like this—I’m responsible for wiping up the blood. Leave it to me and sleep with oil in your nose.

Oppenheimer asked when Russia is making nuclear bombs? The overconfident Truman proudly replied “never”. Oppenheimer reminded us that there are Russians, but all the world’s best physicists.

Truman was outraged and disgusted. It is also historical. There are many references, Truman remarked. Oppenheimer gave the title “Crybaby”.

The best dialogue in the entire movie is Oppenheimer’s answer to a question from Truman. Truman asked – What is your advice on Los Alamo?

Truman might have thought Oppenheimer would say—more modern, bigger, another multibillion-dollar project.

Oppenheimer replied—”Give Los Alamo back to the Indians.”

Los Alamo was created by the Mere-Kate occupation of New Mexico by uprooting hundreds of indigenous Red Indians from their habitats. Atomic bomb laboratory and launch test area.

The dialogue ranks as one of the most mind-blowing movie dialogues I’ve seen in my entire life. I almost stood up to give a standing ovation!

Hats off to Nolan! You are the boss of the bosses. I know for sure this dialogue is not in ‘American Prometheus’. Not in history. This is Nolan’s original creation.

I got the reason why ‘Oppenheimer’ will get an Oscar.

I will watch the movie only twice. Only one-third of movies are captured at one time.

I can’t tell you how many times I have heard and seen Sting’s song ‘Rashons’. Experience listening ten times in one sitting. One of my favorite songs of all time. Of course, the second and third are Sting’s ‘Fragile’ and ‘Shape of My Heart’.

While watching the movie, I was regretting again and again–ish! If Nolan saw a track empty with Sting. Oops!

Every time I hear the lyrics ‘Oppenheimer’s Deadly Toy’ and ‘And the Rushans Love Their Children Too’ from the song ‘Rashans’, I get goosebumps every time. Not once was there an exception.

[the song’s Lyrics here.]

In Europe and America there’s a growing feeling of hysteria

Conditioned to respond to all the threats

In the rhetorical speeches of the Soviets

Mister Krushchev said, “We will bury you”

I don’t subscribe to this point of view

It’d be such an ignorant thing to do

If the Russians love their children too

How can I save my little boy from Oppenheimer’s deadly toy?

There is no monopoly on common sense

On either side of the political fence

We share the same biology, regardless of ideology

Believe me when I say to you

I hope the Russians love their children too

There is no historical precedent

To put the words in the mouth of the president?

There’s no such thing as a winnable war

It’s a lie we don’t believe anymore

Mister Reagan says, “We will protect you”

I don’t subscribe to this point of view

Believe me when I say to you

I hope the Russians love their children too

We share the same biology, regardless of ideology

But what might save us, me and you

Is if the Russians love their children too
