Eating disorders

In addition to the two eating disorders that I have written about in the previous episode, some other important eating disorders are binge eating disorder, binge eating disorder, rumination disorder, and avoidant restrictive food intake disorder.

3. Binge eating disorder: This disease is more common in adolescence, or on the contrary, it can be said that the illness that people usually suffer from for a long time in adolescence is binge eating disorder. Many times it does not appear in adolescence, but when people enter adulthood, the disease is highly likely. Sometimes it starts a little in adolescence or young adulthood, but it gets stronger with age.

The symptoms of this disease can be very similar to those of anorexia or bulimia nervosa, for example, they usually eat a lot of food in a short period of time uncontrollably. They have no control over themselves. However, unlike other eating disorders, they do not have a tendency to eat by measuring calories, nor do they have a tendency to vomit. Again, the symptoms of gasping, vomiting, excessive exercise etc. are not so noticeable. But worryingly, their food choices are not exactly healthy. They often eat fatty, or more fatty, rich foods while going through these stages. By doing this, one has to face various health related problems, heart problems, strokes, diabetics and other health related problems take root in the body.

According to various reliable sources, the symptoms of binge eating disorder are: 1. Consuming a large amount of food very quickly, trying to do it secretly or in public, eating too much until you feel severe discomfort and gasping, continuing to eat when you are not hungry, 2. Losing control over oneself when the urge to binge eat arises, 3. Feeling distressed, especially feeling ashamed of one’s own desires, feeling self-loathing, feeling guilty, 4. Any further action due to binge eating; No effort like vomiting, extra exercise, calorie intake, etc.

4. Gluttony: Gluttony is a disease in which people usually eat things that do not belong to the food category and usually do not have any nutritional value or nutrition, but can cause serious health risks. As seen, many may eat clothes, some may eat soil, ice, hair, wool, pebbles, detergent powder, cornstarch, glass, or plastic. They also eat a variety of other things. This disease has no age limit. Sometimes this disease is seen in children, teenagers, young adults, or even the elderly. Again, this disease can also occur due to lack of calcium during pregnancy, although the disease does not persist after childbirth. However, those who have autism, developmental disability, intellectual disability, schizophrenia, have a higher risk of this disease. A variety of behavioral therapies can be used to treat this disease, but a complete cure is not yet known.

As a result of consuming such different kinds of junk food, they often have to resort to hospital, sometimes there is poisoning, and even infections, gut injuries, and various digestive disorders can occur. But it must be remembered that in the case of pika, only those things are taken into account, which are not included in the diet, and which they do not eat because of their culture or culture.

5. Rumination Disorder: This disease is a recently discovered eating disorder. This is quite uncomfortable for those watching. People suffering from this disease tend to re-chew their chewed or swallowed food. Then sometimes he swallows it again, sometimes he spits it out. I have seen many clients who do the same with their favorite foods. For example, Jim loves chicken nuggets. At home, mother tries to feed him different kinds of food, sometimes he eats, sometimes throws it away, or cries. But whenever chicken nuggets are offered, he eats them. But he has also been seen doing this with the much-loved chicken nuggets. When he comes to the center for a full day of therapy, Mom always packs him boxed chicken nuggets for lunch, along with his favorite ketchup. I was surprised to notice for the first time that, while he played the first four or five nuggets with great interest, from the sixth he was just mouthing, chewing, and then spitting them back into his box. It is very difficult to watch that scene. At first, I thought maybe mom had ordered him to eat everything and take the box home empty, so I understand he is doing that. I lovingly explained to him that if you don’t want to eat, it’s okay, is there a need to waste like this? He would rather take the extra tukun home. But this brought tears to his eyes. So leaving him as he was, I found out about this novel disease while talking to a psychiatrist. Rumination usually occurs within the first thirty minutes of eating. And the onset of this disease can occur at any age. From childhood to old age. It is often seen in children that it occurs anywhere from three to six months of age, but it often gets better with age. However, in later-onset cases, the disease usually becomes permanent, and therapy is required. If not treated in time, the disease causes many people to lose so much weight that they suffer from severe malnutrition and extreme weight loss.

6. Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder – abbreviated as ARFD. It is just a new name for a long-standing disease. Earlier it was called infantile feeding disorder. In earlier days the name of the disease was reserved for children under the age of seven. Suffering from this disease, people have great reluctance towards food. They show no interest in food, and in many cases, there is a particular color, temperature, texture, smell, taste, or appearance of food that they actually want to avoid. As it turns out, if a child does not like eggs, then it will be seen that he will not eat any food made with eggs.

Some of the common symptoms of this disease are not consuming enough calories or nutrients, weight loss, not growing according to age and height, many times they have to be kept alive with supplements or feeding tubes. It is important to remember that this is not to be confused with common food poisoning, it is not such a simple disease.

In addition to the above six eating disorders, several other eating disorders can nest in humans, such as purging disorder, in which the person tries to throw out food in various ways, even though he may not be binge eating; There is also another disease, which is called night eating disorder. In this, the patient wakes up to eat in the middle of the night, and eats a good amount. I’ve also heard of another type of eating disorder called orthorexia, in which people seek out healthy foods excessively. They usually eat food only after confirming the calorie and food quality of all the food. Although there is a lot of talk about this disorder in the media and scientific studies these days, the DSM manual has not yet made a decision or listed it. Suffering from it, people indulge in food judgments to such an extent that they disrupt normal living in many ways.

Raising awareness of the eating disorders discussed above can prevent many diseases, and following the doctor’s guidelines can save people before irreparable damage is done. Behavior therapy is the most effective treatment for these disorders, but at one time talk therapy, usually administered by a psychiatrist, became popular. Nutritional counseling, group therapy, or medication may also have some success. So, if someone admits to such a condition, listen to him carefully, give him hope to get better, arrange proper treatment for him as soon as possible.
