The coordinators are proving themselves powerless. No one responds to their calls anymore.
For example, a while ago, Hasnat Abdullah and Sarjis Alam demanded the removal of the president, but it didn’t work. The president is still in office. Sometimes, the army chief meets with him, and the pictures are published in the media. The president doesn’t seem too worried. In fact, I’ve noticed him smiling slyly.
Earlier, a single call from the coordinators would get things done, but not anymore.
There are many reasons why things don’t work anymore. The students who participated in the government fall movement in July-August and were successful, have seen how a few coordinators benefited from this movement. Two coordinators have become advisers to the ministry with ministerial status. Another mastermind, Mafuz Alam, has been appointed as an assistant to Dr. Yunus with the status of a secretary. This has made all the other students involved in the movement and other anti-discrimination students feel deprived. Moreover, most of the coordinators later revealed their Shibir identities, which the general students involved in the movement did not take well. They see it as a huge deception.
For these reasons, the coordinators no longer have public or student support. Their calls, it seems, will not bring students and the public to the streets as before. The decline in public support for Dr. Yunus’s initial employers means a decline in Dr. Yunus’s power as well.
We have seen in the past how the coordinators forced the Chief Justice and Supreme Court judges to resign. We have seen how the coordinators suppressed the Ansars. At their call, a huge number of students and the public took to the streets.
It doesn’t seem like the coordinators have that power anymore.
So, their demand for the removal of the president, and the fact that it has not been implemented yet, proves their powerlessness.
People have seen that they are now powerless like Nidhiram Sardar without a shield or sword.
Dr. Yunus’s strength now lies in the military. If the military withdraws its support, he will lose all his power. So, for as long as he remains, he will have to rely on the mercy of the military.
